Our therapists have performed thousands of comprehensive home safety assessments to help clients identify risks, select the right equipment, and make home improvements. We work with you to understand your key activities and develop a plan. Home safety assessments and any equipment needed are often covered by your insurance or county aging services.
Home Modifications
Modifying your home is a proven way to reduce the risk of falls and maintain independence. Proper installation of grab bars, toilet safety devices, railings, ramps, and stair lifts require skilled contractors and knowledge of your conditions. With Vest you receive clinically guided home modifications by a team of Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) OTs and construction experts. We help equip your home to create a safe and healthy environment that meets your specific needs.
Assistive Equipment and Devices
New products come on the market every day to support your health and independence. After we help you select the right equipment to meet your needs, our experts can install and show you safe and proper use. Vest Rehabilitation Engineers and Assistive Technology Professionals (ATPs) supply the best designed and most reliable equipment for your situation ranging from walkers, shower chairs, toilet risers and tub transfer benches to specialized wheelchairs, beds, and lifts.
Smart Home Technology
We are experts in the “smart technology” that helps you stay safe, track health conditions, and communicate with your family and medical team. Depending on your goals and needs, our Home Safe and Smart™ program matches you or your loved one with the right technology, installs it in your home and gives you training and support. We provide health tracking and monitoring devices like smart blood pressure cuffs, glucose monitors and pulse oximeters. For home safety we install smart lighting, doorbells and locks. Vest ATPs are experts in setting up smart hubs and speakers to empower telehealth and provider communication, routine reminders for medications and caregiver connections and alerts.
Strength, Balance, and Endurance Training
Whether you are preparing for surgery or just want to improve your strength and balance for activities of daily living (ADLs), we come to your home to help get you where you want to be. Our pre-surgery, “pre-habilitation” services include therapeutic exercise, balance and gait training, manual therapy and joint mobilization and nutritional counseling. Vest therapists are experts in assessing your needs and developing an evidence-based plan to increase your strength, balance, and functional performance.
Caregiver Training & Support
Family caregivers are important to our health and well-being as we age. Today caregivers are increasingly needed to help with medical tasks and managing complex health conditions. Vest Home Therapy offers a wide range of services to prepare caregivers to better support family members and loved ones. We provide caregiver training on things like wound healing, mobility and transfers, safety practices and post hospital care. Caregiver training is often covered by your insurance, and we also connect you with local caregiver support and respite programs. Vest OTs can come to your home or help online with all the proven strategies and techniques for caregiving success.
